Dave & Buster’s winning combination

Dave & Buster’s made the switch to Skidmore Studio from their national Chicago ad agency to more effectively integrate their creative across all channels – and we set out to up the fun for America’s most playful brand!

Following the Design Thinking process, we started with in-depth research to fully understand the brand and its customers. The empathy and insight we gained from interviews, site visits and hours of playtime in the Midway allowed us to successfully strategize and execute a multi-channel campaign for Dave & Buster’s Eat & Play Combo, which was in need of a refresh after hitting a plateau. We set the tone with a redesigned logo and integrated Dave & Buster’s fun signature style into each piece of collateral for the promotion.

We brought out the playful nature of the brand with a bite and a smile in the new Eat & Play Combo logo, which we later animated for TV.

A new menu insert shows how to get food AND fun.

 

Ceiling danglers, table tents and floor graphics promote the Eat & Play combo in stores.

We concepted the story and wrote scripts for a 30- and 15-second TV commercial shot in Los Angeles.

Back in Detroit, we sorted through footage, directed the voiceover and selected music to create two winning spots.

The campaign was a win for everyone. The 30-second Eat & Play Combo TV spot ranked higher than all Dave & Buster’s norms and all casual dining norms. Many key performance indicators scored above the Dave & Buster’s Gold Standard, determined by their highest-ranking and most successful commercials of all time.
